❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean (average) is calculated by adding all values and dividing by the count. The median is the middle value when all numbers are sorted. For skewed data (e.g., one very high or low mark), the median is often a more representative measure than the mean.
Can I use this for assignment marks?
Yes. Enter your marks separated by commas and the calculator will show your average, best and worst marks, and range. Note that this is a simple average — if assignments have different weights, use the Weighted Grade Calculator instead.
What is range and why does it matter?
Range is the difference between the highest and lowest values (Max − Min). A large range means your results are inconsistent. For example, marks of 50, 90, 95 have a range of 45, suggesting variable performance across subjects or assessment types.
How do I calculate average percentage for a subject with multiple tasks?
If all tasks have equal weight, a simple average works: enter all percentage scores and the mean will be your average. If tasks have different weights (e.g., assignments 30%, exam 70%), use the Weighted Grade Calculator for an accurate result.
