📐 Formula

Required Exam Score = (Desired − Current × (1 − Weight/100)) ÷ (Weight/100)

Example: Current = 65%, Desired = 75%, Exam = 40%

= (75 − 65 × (1 − 40/100)) ÷ (40/100)

= (75 − 65 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40

= (75 − 39) ÷ 0.40

= 36 ÷ 0.40 = 90%

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What if the required score is over 100%?
If the calculator shows a score above 100%, your desired final grade is mathematically unachievable given your current grade and exam weight. Consider adjusting your desired grade or focusing on other assessments still available.
What if the exam weight is 100%?
If your final exam counts for the entire subject grade (100%), then the required exam score equals your desired final grade exactly — your current grade doesn't factor in at all.
Does this work for assignments too?
Yes. The formula works for any weighted assessment. Just enter the weight of the upcoming task in the "Final Exam Weight" field.
